WRITER + FILMMAKER
Maria Warith-Wade is a writer and director from Richmond, Virginia known for “Maternity” (2022) and “Separated” (2022). Her interest in television and film began when she was nine, operating cameras for televised services at her church. She’s the youngest out of thirteen, raised in a multi-faith house -- Islam and Christianity, and graduated from college at nineteen. She’s the daughter of a sharecropper, but came of age post-9/11 and was considered an “at-risk” youth. Storytelling became her tool to drive social impact stories and narratives around the Black experience and diaspora.
After starting in New York working at Paramount (MTV, VH1, Comedy Central) producing award show content for Hollywood’s biggest nights, Maria made the leap to Los Angeles. She graduated with Master of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California, School of Cinematic Arts, and a Bachelor of Science from Emerson College.
Currently she’s a story editor for an unannounced Amazon Prime series and proud member of the Writers Guild of America (WGA). She resides in Los Angeles, Ca with her husband, newborn, and pup.
